Dear Young Scientists,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 2014 IUBMB-FAOBMB Young Scientists Program (YSP), which will be held during 17-20 October 2014 in Taichung city, Taiwan. The YSP provides a unique opportunity for young scientists from different countries to discuss their scientific results, novel ideas, and career development.

We kindly invite PhD students and postdoctoral fellows (be in the late stages of their PhD training or up to five years postdoctoral training) to submit their application for the YSP Travel Fellowships. A limited number of the most outstanding young scientists will be selected by the Evaluation Committee to participate in the meeting. The fellowship contributes towards partial or full traveling expenses. The awardees will participate in the YSP at no cost and will be exempted from the costs of registration and accommodation for the 15th IUBMB-24th FAOBMB-TSBMB International Conference, Taipei, during 21-26 October, 2014.

FELLOWSHIP

The YSP Travel Fellowships will be awarded to qualified young biochemists or molecular biologists for those who plan to attend and present their research at the IUBMB Young Scientists Program, Taichung, during 17-20 October, 2014, and to participate in the 15th IUBMB-24th FAOBMB International Conference, Taipei, during 21-26 October, 2014. The fellowship contributes towards partial or full traveling expenses. The awardees will participate in the YSP at no cost and will be exempted from the costs of registration and accommodation for the 15th IUBMB-24th FAOBMB International Conference.

PROGRAM


 

ELIGIBLE CRITERIA

A limited number of fellowships for PhD students and young researchers are available. Applicants have to fulfill the following conditions:

Applicants should:

  • Be in the late stages of their PhD training or up to FIVE years postdoctoral training.
  • Be a member of IUBMB-related national or international society, including regional-associated organizations such as FEBS (Europe), FASBMB (Africa), PABMB (North & South America), and FAOBMB (Asia & Oceania).
  • NOT have previously attended IUBMB YSF or YSP meetings

Applicants must:

  • Register and submit a digital form which includes an abstract as a first author, the personal (motivation) statement and curriculum vitae (CV), and a signed recommendation letter from mentor, and a proof of being a member of any IUBMB-related national or international societies as mentioned above.
  • For more information on IUBMB and FAOBMB memberships, please visit IUBMB (http://www.iubmb.org) and FAOBMB (http://faobmb.net) websites, where you will find the list of countries that have a IUBMB or FAOBMB Constituent Societies or that are FAOBMB Associated Members as well as contact information.
  • If you do not have a valid IUBMB membership, please contact the corresponding organization in your country of origin.

 

BENEFITS

If your application is successful you will receive a fellowship with the following benefits:

  • Full accommodation (in shared rooms) and meals during the YSP (October 17-20, 2014).
  • Travel grants that cover most of the transportation from the applicant's country of residence. Contributions of up to 80% of the travel expenses are possible if the travel costs are kept at a minimum.
  • Costs of registration for the 15th IUBMB-24th FAOBMB International Conference, Taipei 2014, which will be automatically completed.
  • Accommodation (in shared rooms) during the 15th IUBMB-24th FAOBMB International Conference, Taipei, October 21-26, 2014.

All of the awardees must present their work at YSP by both oral communications and posters. These posters will be also displayed during the 15th IUBMB-24th FAOBMB-TSBMB International Conference.
If your application is not successful and you would still like to attend the 15th IUBMB-24th FAOBMB-TSBMB International Conference, you will be allowed to register before July 20, 2014 with the lowest registration fee.
IUBMB/FAOBMB/TSBMB is NOT liable for any accidents or mishaps in any events that it supports. All participants must make sure they have their own insurance cover (travel and medical). Acceptance of the YSP Travel Fellowship is conditional on the recipient’s acknowledging that they have responsibility for their safety and making their own arrangements for adequate insurance cover.

National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) is located in Taichung city, the largest city in central Taiwan with a population of just over 2.6 million people. First established in 1919 as an academy of Agronomy and Forestry, NCHU is now a comprehensive university where one can study a wide range of disciplines such as literature, science, agriculture, life sciences, engineering, law and politics, business management, and veterinary medicine. NCHU is one of the 12 institutions supported by the Ministry of Education’s NT$50 billion Aiming for Top University Plan. Currently, NCHU has approximately 17,000 students with 757 full-time faculty members.  The main campus of NCHU has an area of approximately 53 hectares. Transportation from the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Taichung Splendor Hotel.  Our staff will contact all YSP fellows and faculty to request their flight information. On October 17th 2014 our staff will be standby in the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and escort YSP fellows and faculty to the shuttle bus station in the airport. Bus service departs to Taichung every 15 minutes. It takes about 90 minutes to the Taichung city by Highway No.1. Get off the bus at the SOGO Department Stop. The hotel is positioned across the street. It is easy to reach the Hotel by taxi in the downtown of Taichung if the SOGO Department Stop is missed.

Alternatives:

  • TAKE TRAIN to Taichung Railway Station, and then take a 15-minute taxi ride to the hotel.
  • TAKE TAIWAN HIGH SPEED RAIL to THSR Taichung Station, and then take a 30 minute free shuttle (China Medical University Line) ride to the SOGO Department Stop. The hotel is positioned across the street (P.S. The free THSR shuttles come by every 15 minutes from 8 am to 10 pm).
  • TAKE A BUS from Taipei Main Station to Taichung City (Guo Guang Bus Route 1827 exit National Museum of Natural Science, and then 3 min walk to hotel.
